The Bangladesh cricket team are no longer the pushovers of world cricket. The same is evident with the emergence of young guns. Mehedi Hasan is one such promising talent from the land of tigers who is taking the world cricket by storm. At a very young age, Hasan has already made giant strides in the game of cricket. After making an early start in the game, he grew from strength to strength and had found a place in the Test team days before his 19th birthday.

Hasan is a batting allrounder who bowls right-arm off spin with a simplistic quiet action. He runs to the wicket before giving a slight leap and then rotating his upper body. His simplicity and the action has earned him a lot of success at such a young age.  Here are interesting facts about Mehedi Hasan that you must know:

1. Roots and beginnings

Mehedi Hasan Miraz was born on 25 October 1997 in Khulna. He started playing cricket at a very young age. Since then he has made huge strides. He made his way to the U19 national team in 2014.

2. Nickname

He is fondly called as Miraz by his teammates.

3. Captaincy at the age of 16 and the triumph

At a tender age of 16, Hasan was handed the captaincy of the U19 team for the ICC U19 World Cup 2014. Bangladesh won the Plate Finals of the tournament. They beat New Zealand U19s by 77 runs.

4. Handed the responsibility yet again

In the ICC U19 World Cup 2016, Bangladesh’s leadership was in the hands of Mehedi Hasan yet again. He led Bangladesh U19 to the semifinals of the tournament this time. He was only unlucky to have lost the semifinals against the eventual champions, West Indies U19. Hasan scored a gutsy 60 off 74 balls in the match and later bagged 2 wickets.

5. First Class debut

A young 17-year old Mehedi Hasan made his FC debut for Khulna Division against Rajshahi Division in 2015. His List A debut was for the same team against Dhaka Metropolis in 2016. Both his debuts were not great for him as he couldn’t do much. However, he was phenomenal following his debut.

6. A terrific leader

In the 48 matches as the U19 captain, Hasan managed to take Bangladesh U19 to a win on 30 occasions. Clearly, if there is a leader in the making, it is Hasan for Bangladesh.

7. A giant in Domestic cricket already

In the 12 FC matches he has played so far, Hasan has scored at an average over 40. He has taken 41 wickets with 3 five-wicket hauls to his name. He has best figures of 6/50 in FC cricket.

8. The spectacular domestic season

In the 2015-16 domestic season, Mehedi took 30 wickets at 16.43, including three five-fors.

9. Man of big occasions

Hasan has a phenomenal record in the U19 World Cups. In the 12 U19 World Cup matches that he has played, he has scored 261 runs at an average of 43.5 and bagged 19 wickets at an average of 21.36 with a best of 3/28.

10. The international call

Mehedi Hasan was drafted to the national team for the Test series against England. He had the unique distinction of starting the attack in the Test. He had a memorable debut as he scalped 6/80 on debut. He took 19 wickets in his debut Test series in which Bangladesh registered their first ever Test victory against England.
