11 Interesting Chris Tremlett facts that you need to know: The 6 feet 7 inch tall Chris Tremlett is a former English fast-bowler who was regarded as a man with prodigal skills with the ball. His most lethal weapon was the ferocious bouncer with which he troubled the batsmen to the hilt. Even when the pitches were not that fast Chris was proficient in extracting bounce due to his height which aided him greatly with attributes of a genuine fast-bowler. At his best, Tremlett looked like a shivering prospect for the opponent batters as his pace and bounce was backed up by immaculate accuracy.

Overall, Tremlett represented England in 12 Test matches and took 53 wickets at an average of 27 while in 15 ODIs he grabbed 15 scalps. As far as First-Class cricket is concerned he featured in 146 matches and took 459 wickets.

1. Cricket runs in Chris Tremlett’s blood. His grandfather Maurice Tremlett had represented Somerset and England in 1940s and 50s while his father Tim Tremlett is a former Hampshire pacer. He coached Chris throughout his cricketing career.

2. Tremlett who started his career at Hursley Park CC got the wicket of Mark Richardson off his first ball in First-Class cricket against New Zealand A in 1999.

3. After putting up some stellar performances for Hampshire, he was selected for England Under-19 tour of India in 2000-01.

4. Tremlett’s impressive performances also earned him a place in the first batch of Rod Marsh’s academy intakes in the 2001-02 season.

5. Chris Tremlett won the prestigious NBC Denis Compton Award in both 2000 and 2001 respectively. This award is given to ‘The Most Promising Young Player’ at each of the 18 English First-class counties.

6. In his debut ODI match at Trent Bridge against Bangladesh in 2005, he was denied a hat-trick. On the hat-trick ball a very unusual thing happened. The ball hit the stumps but unfortunately didn’t dislodge the bails.

7. When Tremlett made his Test debut against India in 2007, he became the fourth grandson of a Test cricketer to play Tests without his father having played Test cricket.

8. The most memorable point in his career came in England’s historic 2010/11 Ashes triumph in Australia, where he took 17 wickets in 3 Tests and helped England win the Ashes in down under after drought of 24 years.

9. In 2011, Tremlett was the leading wicket-taker in the 3-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Tremlett took 15 wickets in the series which also included his career best figures of 6/48 in the 3rd Test match.

10. Tremlett who was part of the English squad in Ashes 2013/14 had supported Kevin Pietersen after he was excluded from the English side in wake of the series whitewash. He had openly said that Kevin didn’t do anything wrong apart from voicing his honest opinion.

11. Chris was injury-prone and throughout his cricketing journey he suffered from various kinds of injuries which cut his career short. He announced his retirement from all forms of cricket due to recurring back-injuries, just a few weeks back.
