Virat Kohli continued his unbeaten streak in Tests when his team beat New Zealand by 197 runs in the first of the three-match series in Kanpur, which also happened to be Team India’s 500th Test match.

Kohli’s record has been quite impressive in his short stint as the Test captain so far. Recently, he became the first Indian captain to win two Tests in the West Indies in history. He is also the most successful Test captain of India (more than one game) at the moment in terms of winning percentage (8 out of 15; 53 per cent).

But having said that, India, being an old Test side (they are playing since 1932), have a number of records (team or individual) to their credit – be it in batting or bowling.

Here we take a look at some of the world records that India have in Tests:

1. Most consecutive number of team score of 400:

India have the most consecutive numbers (six) of 400 or above scores in Tests. They achieved the feat between Oct 1986 and February 1987 and they scored these mammoth scores against Australia (1 game), Sri Lanka (3 games) and Pakistan (2 games).

2. Most ducks in an innings (6):

India have a forgettable record of ending an innings with as many as six batsmen failing to open their accounts – a record which they share with Pakistan, South Africa and Bangladesh. India became a member of this inglorious club against England at Manchester in 2014.

3. Most number of ducks in a match (11):

The world record of most number of ducks in a Test match is 11 and India have been party to such a record two times. The first time a Test involving India saw 11 ducks in all was in 1964 when their opponents were Australia.

As many as six Indian batsmen were dismissed for zero (both innings together) in that match which India had lost. The other Test played in 1990, however, went to India’s favour. In this game against Sri Lanka, only two Indians were dismissed for zero while for the islanders, the number was nine!
