Stuart Binny is an established all-rounder in the Indian team. A useful lower-order batsman and a line to line seam bowler, Binny has been India’s first-choice for the seam bowling all-rounder’s for some time now. The 32-year-old was a sort of late bloomer and got his opportunities bit late. However, he has now been a regular face in the Indian team though he is yet to make any huge impact as an all-rounder at the international level.

1. Born on:

Stuart Terence Roger Binny was born on June 3, 1984 in Bangalore, Karnataka

2. Son of a world-cup winning cricketer:

He is the son of former Indian Test cricketer Roger Binny. Roger was the part of the famous Kapil’s Devils team which won the 1983 World Cup. His father, however, did not play a single game in the tournament.

3. Education:

Stuart did his schooling from The Frank Anthony Public School, Bangalore. He later attended high school in The St. Joseph’s Indian High School where his father Roger Binny was the school cricket coach. He also took coaching in IACA under coach Imtiaz Ahmed.

4. India debut:

In 2014, Binny was rewarded for his consistency in the last couple of years in the IPL a domestic cricket with a national call-up. He made his international debut against New Zealand at Hamilton. He bowled just one over in that match.

5. Breaks Anil Kumble’s long-standing record:

In his second ODI, Binny bagged the best figures by an Indian bowler. Playing against Bangladesh at Dhaka in 2014, India was defending a modest 105 and bowled out the hosts for 58 courtesy to Binny’s stunning 6 for 4. His figures were 4.4-2-6-4 and in achieving so he surpassed his state mate Anil Kumble’s 6 for 12 against the West Indies in the Hero Cup final in 1993.

6. Test debut:

Binny earned his Test cap at the age of 30 at Nottingham against England in 2014. He fulfilled the role of the seam bowling all-rounder India were looking for.

7. A dream debut in Tests:

His debut game was a memorable one for him. In the second innings of the match, when India was down by 6 wickets with just 184 runs on the board, he came in at No. 8 and played a match-saving knock of 78 runs. It was definitely a dream debut for him even though he went wicketless with the ball.

8. Indian Premier League:

After two seasons in the unsanctioned tournament, Binny accepted BCCI’s offer and quitting ICL, Binny was bought by Mumbai-based franchise Mumbai Indians in 2010. Later, Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) bought him in the year 2011 and was a regular member of the lineup till 2015 before the team’s suspension ahead of the 2016 season. He was then signed up by his hometown franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 2 crore.

9. Personal life:

Stuart Binny is married to popular TV presenter Mayanti Langer. The couple tied the knot in 2012.
