Mohammed Shami was the hero of India’s close win over Afghanistan in Southampton. Half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Kedar Jadhav took India to 224/8. In response, Mohammad Nabi led the chase and Afghanistan needed 16 runs in the last over to win. Shami had the ball in his hand and Nabi hit him for a four the first ball straight over his head.
After bowling the second ball a dot, Mohammed Shami turned on the heat as Nabi went for a similar shot over the bowler, but was caught by Hardik Pandya. The next ball Aftab Alam’s stumps were disturbed with a perfect yorker by Shami. And then he created history, but knocking over Mujeeb Ur Rahman with another Yorker. Rohit Sharma had a dream run in the 2019 World Cup. He ended up as the highest run-getter in the tournament with 648 runs in 9 matches. During his mega event campaign, Sharma ended up smashing one fifty and a record 5 centuries.
Notably, against the arch-rivals Pakistan, his highest score was 140. <o:p></o:p>The Hitman with his five tons, broke Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara’s record of most centuries in a single edition of a World Cup. Sangakkara had scored 4 centuries in the 2015 World Cup.
This also turned out to be the last outing for the Lankan legend in international cricket. <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/cricket-news/shadab-admires-rohit-sharma/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rohit Sharma</a> went one better and ended with five tons to his name. <o:p></o:p>The Indian opener scored 140 against Pakistan, 122* against South Africa, 104 against Bangladesh, 103 against Sri Lanka, and 102 against England, respectively. &nbsp;<o:p></o:p>

India reached the semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2019 and clashed with New Zealand in Manchester. New Zealand opted to bat first after winning the toss and posted 239/8 with fifties from Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor. New Zealand completed their innings on the reserve day due to rain.<o:p></o:p>
But the rain proved to be doom for India. Trent Boult and Matt Henry rocked the top order as Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli all fell for 1 run each. In no time, India was reduced to 92/6. MS Dhoni walked out to bat at no.7 and steadied the ship with Ravindra Jadeja.<o:p></o:p>
Both batters scored the fifties and took India within touching distance despite the climbing required run rate. Jadeja fell first for 77 runs, but every Indian fan had still hopes of a win as Dhoni was still there. Unfortunately, MS Dhoni was runout for 50 and India fell short by 18 runs.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>
This also proved to be MS Dhoni’s last international innings as well as he retired in 2020. Incidentally, MS Dhoni was run out on his debut in 2004 as well against Bangladesh and ended his international career on a similar note.<o:p></o:p>

England and New Zealand clashed in an epic final that had all the drama a match of this stature in the World Cup requires. New Zealand batted first and posted 241/8. Then an epic knock from Ben Stokes (84*) and a contentious six runs when the ball hit his bat and went for a boundary, enabled England to tie the match.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>
Super Over saw England posting 15 runs and then Jimmy Neesham hit a six to Jofra Archer to bring New Zealand close with 2 runs needed from the final ball. But Martin Guptill was run out going for the second and the super-over was tied as well. But England were declared as the winners on the basis of a 'boundary count' rule as they had hit more fours than New Zealand in the match.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>
