Rating each bowler from all ten IPL teams

It has been a frenetic start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season for all ten teams in the tournament. With the first round, some of the teams like the Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Kolkata Knight Riders have laid down the early marker.

While most of the games have been high-scoring encounters the batters have made the best use of the early conditions so far. Bowlers too haven’t been far behind as some of the games from the 1st week of the tournament have seen a few thrilling encounters.

Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders won closely fought contests thanks to the brilliance of their bowlers. A few spells during the first week of the IPL 2024 season have already made a huge impact.

Here we take a closer look at the best bowler from each team after the first week of IPL 2024:

10) Cameron Green – Royal Challengers Bengaluru – 2/10

The Afghanistan star bowled four overs and gave away 41 runs and picked up 2 wickets. His victims include Jos Buttler for 11 and Riyan Parag for 43. It was an otherwise miserable day for the LSG bowlers but Naveen Ul Haq was the only saving grace.

After years of injuries, it seems that T Natarajan is finally back to his best with the ball. The 32-year-old bowled four overs and gave away 32 runs and managed to take three scalps. It was Natarajan who dented the KKR batting early before Andre Russell helped his side post a massive total on the board.

7) Kuldeep Yadav – Delhi Capitals – 3/10

Leading Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav continued his good run of form with the ball. The 29-year-old picked 2/20 from 4 overs against a strong Punjab Kings batting unit. While the rest of the bowlers were struggling it looked like Kuldeep Yadav was bowling on a different surface as he was the most dangerous bowler.

6) Arshdeep Singh – Punjab Kings – 3/10

Young Indian left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh was the best bowler on show for Punjab Kings. Arshdeep got the key wicket of Mitchell Marsh who was taking the attack to the Delhi bowlers. On a pitch which was assisting the pacers at the start of the game, Arshdeep Singh did well to peg the Delhi batters back with his bowling.

5) Trent Boult – Rajasthan Royals – 5/10

New Zealand pacer Trent Boult has created a reputation as a dangerous customer to face with the new ball. His reputation of nipping out the best batters in the first over came to the fore again. With 2/35 from 4 overs, Boult was a key figure in Rajasthan Royals winning the game against Lucknow Super Giants.

4) Jasprit Bumrah – Mumbai Indians – 5/10

It wasn’t a happy return to IPL 2024 for Jasprit Bumrah after the Mumbai Indians lost yet another opening game of the season. With the ball, the Indian pacer was at his finest as he picked 3/14 from 4 overs. None of the Titans' batters had any answers to the amazing talents of the best pacer in the world.

3) Harshit Rana – Kolkata Knight Riders – 7/10

The young pacer from New Delhi made his franchise Kolkata Knight Riders proud with his composure in the final over. Harshit Rana defended 7 runs off 5 balls to help KKR win their first game of the season. Rana picked 3/33 from 4 overs which began by removing Mayank Agatwal. The next was that of Heinrich Klaasen who top-scored with 63 before dismissing Shahbaz Ahmed for 16.

2) Mohit Sharma – Gujarat Titans – 8/10

It seems Mumbai Indians simply have no answers to Mohit Sharma’s bowling. The veteran pacer had picked 5/10 in a match-winning spell last year. On Sunday, Mohit Sharma pulled out all the stops to ensure Mumbai Indians lost the match by 6 runs. His figures of 2/32 included the key wickets of Dewald Brevis and Tim David.

Mustafizur Rahman – Chennai Super Kings – 9/10

Bangladeshi left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman made his Chennai Super Kings debut in fine fashion. The left-arm seamer hastened the RCB batting collapse with four wickets in no time. The 28-year-old picked 4/29 from his four overs as it included the big scalps of Faf Du Plessis and Virat Kohli. With the wickets of Rajat Patidar and Cameron Green the Bangladeshi ensured that RCB had lost 5 wickets for the addition of only 37 runs.
