Punjab Kings' bowling coach Charl Langeveldt backed the all-rounder Sam Curran after he had another under-par performance against KKR in an all-important game for his side. The former South African pacer also advocated the fact that Curran has got the potential to bounce back stronger and also perform well for the team in games to come.

The English all-rounder did not have the best of the outings as he registered figures of 0/44 from the three overs which was quite expensive in the context of the match. Chasing a below-par target of 180 runs and KKR needing 26 runs in the last two overs, the left-armer gave away 20 runs which more or less sealed the deal for KKR.

Defending the 24-year-old, Charl Langeveldt said in a post-match press conference that they will be backing him as he is their senior bowler and one can have days like this. It is to be noted that in the 11 games that Curran has played so far, he has managed to score 196 runs with a decent strike rate of 137.06, meanwhile, he has also picked only seven wickets at a poor average of 55.57 which is not something one wants to relate with their senior bowler.

''He's a winner. You want to back him. He's our senior bowler as well, you can have days like this. He's one of those players who can come back and win us a game. It's just about going back to the drawing board, keep it as simple as possible," said Charl Langeveldt.

The veteran Proteas bowler also praised Andre Russell for his brilliant knock of 42 off 23 balls. The power hitter from Windies hit Sam Curran for three powerful sixes to strengthen KKR’s position in the game.

“He's always a massive player, a game-changer. We wanted to keep him quiet and tried to bowl outside his hitting zone," added Charl Langeveldt.

PBKS will be playing Delhi Capitals in their next match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, May 13.
