If India are to win Test series in South Africa, Virat Kohli will have to have a good series: Jacques Kallis

Legendary cricketer Jacques Kallis believes that for India to win their first Test series on South African soil, star batter Virat Kohli needs to have a terrific time with the bat. Notably, the former India skipper struggled in red-ball cricket in the recent past but in his last Test match against West Indies, he hit a terrific century and hence, the 35-year-old will be full of confidence. Especially after having a terrific season with the bat in the recently concluded ODI World Cup.

Kallis believes that Kohli's ability to pass on his knowledge and ideas about managing the conditions will greatly benefit the team in the two-match series. The 48-year-old reminded that Kohli has had significant success in South Africa and hence, will once again be key for India and expects him to have a massive series.

“He’s a massive player, no matter where it is. Having played here quite a bit and had a fair amount of success. He’ll be able to pass that knowledge on to the other guys, especially the younger guys and give them ideas on how to manage these conditions and then what to expect.

“I am sure he will want to have a big series here in South Africa. He has been in good form. I think he will play a major role in helping India. If they are to win here, he will have to have a good series,” Kallis said while talking to Star Sports.

Kohli’s T20I career in threat ahead of T20I World Cup

Despite performing well in the T20 World Cup 2022 and IPL 2023, Virat Kohli is currently not in the scheme of things as far as T20I cricket is concerned. As per reports, the Indian board is willing to give more opportunities to the young brigade, which might come at the cost of Virat.

However, this development is still at a very early stage and can change if the Delhi-born cricketer manages to have a terrific season in the upcoming edition of the IPL.
