Two-time IPL (Indian Premier League) champions Kolkata Knight Riders recently became the first side to qualify for the playoffs of the IPL 2024. Taking on Mumbai Indians in the 60th game of the tournament at Eden Gardens, KKR put in an excellent performance and registered their ninth win of the season.

As KKR secured the win, veteran all-rounder Sunil Narine achieved yet another milestone in his playing career. In his spell of three overs, Narine conceded just 21 runs and took one wicket. The one wicket saw him become the third cricketer to take 550 or more wickets in men’s T20 cricket.

Dwayne Bravo, another West Indies all-rounder, leads the list with 625 wickets, followed by Afghan cricketer Rashid Khan with 574 wickets. As for Narine, the veteran needed just one wicket to enter the 550 club, and he did not have to wait long to achieve his goal. Throughout the IPL 2024, Narine has been in exceptional form, taking 15 wickets at an economy of 6.73 in 12 matches.

As KKR came in to bat first after losing the toss, the side got off to a horrid start as openers Phil Salt and Sunil Narine were dismissed for six and zero runs, respectively.

Venkatesh Iyer scored 42 runs in 21 deliveries, with skipper Shreyas Iyer failing to make an impact as he was dismissed for just seven runs. Furthermore, Nitish Rana added 33 runs on the board, with Rinku Singh scoring 20 runs and Andre Russell scoring 24 runs, as KKR posted a total of 157 runs in the first innings.

Suryakumar Yadav failed to go big, adding just 11 runs to the board. Tilak Varma did attempt to stabilize the innings for his side, scoring 32 runs in 17 balls, but the rest of the batters could not amount to much as MI only managed to score 139 runs and lost the game by 18 runs.
