The Australia veteran spinner Nathan Lyon is all set to attain a monumental milestone in the forthcoming second Ashes Test, at the Lord’s in London. The spinner is poised to become the first specialist bowler to feature in 100 consecutive Tests when he faces the English side on Wednesday, June 28.

Since 2013, the 35-year-old has appeared in 99 Tests and will become among the five cricketers to have played 100 or more consecutive Tests- Alastair Cook (159), Allan Border (153), Mark Waugh (107), Sunil Gavaskar (106) and Brendon McCullum (101). Lyon, who is on the cusp of attaining an impressive feat, had a rather rib-tickling take on the milestone.

"That's something I'm really proud of. To be able to tick off 100 consecutive Test matches, that's a proper stat in my head. That's a lot of Test cricket, a lot of ups and downs. No wonder I've got no hair. For any athlete to be successful over a long period of time, you've got to have really good people around you, and I'm not talking within the Australian cricket team. I feel like my family has been absolutely amazing, with their support and love and care,” Lyon told Fox Sports.

Lyon gunning for another impressive record

In addition to his 100th consecutive appearance, Lyon has another landmark to attain, which he will be gunning to breach in the forthcoming Test. The Aussie spinner is five wickets shy of attaining the 500-wicket landmark in Test cricket. Lyon further expressed his gratitude and added that he was fortunate for his illustrious journey thus far.

“It is pretty amazing when you sit back and look at the names who have been able to take 500 Test wickets. I know I've been very fortunate and I'm grateful for my journey so far. It has been amazing, and if I'm able to tick that little box over the Ashes, it would be very special. If I start looking at what I've been able to achieve, the Tests and the series that we've won, I'll feel like the end can sneak up on you quite quickly, he added.
