Mohammad Rizwan shared a funny moment with New Zealand's Ish Sodhi during Pakistan’s first warm-up match of the ODI World Cup at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on September 29. Rizwan, who was well renowned for being among the friendliest players of the game, once again won over many hearts.

The incident took place as Sodhi was bowling the third ball of the 18th over. Although Babar Azam was prepared to face him, a slight drizzle compelled him to step back. However, the leg-spinner continued to run up, smashed the stumps, and began to appeal. Rizwan noticed it was simply a joke, so he laughed with Sodhi and gave him a warm hug. Kiwi wicketkeeper-batter Devon Conway also joined in the light moment.

Speakaing of the game, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first. Heavy rain interupted the game as umpires called covers to come on as soon as the over was completed. However, the match resumed after a short delay, with Rizwan scoring an unbeaten century and Babar being dismissed for 80.

Pakistan had a forgettable campaign in the Asia Cup 2023, as they were eliminated from the continental championship after suffering defeats against arch-rivals India and Sri Lanka in the Super Four stage. As they prepare for the eagerly anticipated Cricket World Cup, the Men in Green will undoubtedly aim for a win in the exhibition matches.

New Zealand, on the other hand, also suffered defeat in their ODI series against England with key players including their captain Kane Williamson missing from the side. Williamson is still recovering from his ACL injury which he sustained during the 2023 Indian Premier League, and has been sidelined ever since.
