David Warner, the vice-captain to Steven Smith, has a red-hot bat in hand. On his day, bowlers are left to lament over the agony they had at drawing tables, figuring traps for the Aussie opener. The Aussie is not an intimidating figure on the field, but is a maverick with the bat on his hands, perhaps being a true successor of the mighty Mathew Hayden.

Every batsman has got their nemesis when it comes to opposition bowlers. Some batsmen make weird choices, like in the case of a certain Sachin Tendulkar found Hansie Cronje hard to face compared to Alan Donald. Another nemesis of Sachin was Pedro Collins, the left arm pacer from the Carribean, who was mediocre compared to the legendary pacers West Indies had produced.

Having said that, Warner didn’t have any strange choices about whom he found it hard to face. The lethal combo from South Africa, Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel were the hardest, according to the New South Welshman. The Proteas opening bowlers are no mean bowlers and make life difficult for the batsmen’s stay at the crease a pain with their pace, swing and bounce. Both these bowlers constantly clock speeds higher than 145 kph.

But when you dig in the numbers of Warner against the South Africans, numbers reveal that he has dealt the threat pretty well. Warner has played a total of 9 Tests against the South Africans and averages a more-than-decent 57 against them. However, when you dig deeper, if you look at Warner’s average in matches involving either Morkel or Steyn his average goes up to a whopping 67.

Furthermore, he averages 90 against South Africa in South Africa. Looks like when it comes to locking horns with the bull, Warner is a mighty one. The champion he is has produced 4 centuries against the Proteas, among which 3 were made in South Africa.
