ECB appoints Trevor Bayliss as the new Head Coach of the England Cricket Team: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Tuesday announced the appointment of Australian Trevor Bayliss as the new Head coach of the England Cricket Team. Bayliss will join the team in July ahead of the Ashes; he is currently associated as the Coach of the New South Wales.

The Australian is well known for his stint with the Sri Lanka cricket team where they went in to the finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup, 2011 and the ICC World T20 held in 2009 along with that he was also at the helm of affairs while the team was ranked 2nd in ICC Test Ranking their best ever ranking till date. Trevor was also a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders Coaching staff back in 2012 and 2014 the two seasons when KKR won the IPL Championship. Along with that he also enjoyed major success with the Sydney Sixers team in the Australian Big Bash League and the Champions League T20 in 2012, as his team won both the titles.

Andrew Strauss, the ECB’s Director of England Cricket, said: “Trevor has an outstanding record as coach, has global experience and is very highly regarded in the game. He has proved himself in both domestic and international cricket, has a strong reputation for man-management and has shown how to build winning teams in all three formats.

“His expertise in the shorter forms of the game will be vital as we build towards three major ICC events over the next four years; the ICC World T20 tournament in India in 2016 and the ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Cricket World Cup which will be staged in England and Wales in 2017 and 2019 respectively.

“Trevor will also work well with Paul Farbrace, an exceptional coach who will continue as Assistant Coach after helping us to an outstanding victory over New Zealand in the 1st Investec Test of the summer. This has been a very competitive recruitment process and we’re grateful to all of the candidates who showed their interest in this role. I’m excited to have him on board.”

Trevor Bayliss on his appointment by the ECB said: “It’s an honour to be appointed England Coach. There’s a great opportunity to help Alastair Cook and Eoin Morgan shape the direction and development of their respective teams. I am also looking forward to working  alongside Paul Farbrace once again as we have a similar outlook on the game, get on well after two years working together and have kept in touch.

“What particularly excites me about the role is the chance to work with a very talented group of players. I firmly believe that the team has a bright future and I’ll be doing everything I can to help them realise their potential and achieve success on a consistent basis.”

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan was quoted by BBC saying: “He has a wealth of experience in coaching and has got a real know how in terms of Twenty20 and 50 over cricket. I think the Test format we have always been pretty good at but the one day format has been a shemozzle for a while and he is the man to try and bring a new energy and direction for the team. I haven’t heard anybody say anything bad about Trevor Bayliss.”
