Known as one of the most nimble run scorers in world cricket, Glenn Maxwell, broke into the record books today (March 17) with his maiden and gritty Test century at Ranchi in the 3rd Test between India and Australia. The eccentric manipulator of shots scored a responsible 104 from 185 deliveries which earned him the tag of becoming the second Australian cricketer to score centuries in all three formats of the game.

The injury to Mitchell Marsh opened the doorway for Maxwell, who is widely hailed as a power hitter, to prove his worth in Test cricket. The right-handed batsman took complete advantage of the situation and supported skipper Steve Smith brilliantly to put up a healthy score for his team on board.

Though the 28-year-old Aussie has a habit of taking risks throughout his time on the pitch, this inning was defined by diligence and character. Maxwell had immense pressure on his shoulders when he stepped onto the field as the visitors had already lost 4 wickets with just 140 runs to their name.

The Big Show handled the situation brightly by mixing up his attacking nature with concentration and composure. His compelling innings saw 9 boundaries and 2 brilliant sixes of Ravindra Jadeja who has been in terrific form with the ball throughout the season.

The key man for Australian in the middle order, Maxwell joined the noble list of batsmen who have scored centuries in every format of the game with the likes of Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum, Mahela Jayawardene, Rohit Sharma, Shane Watson and others.

His massively destructive innings of an unbeaten 145 of just 65 deliveries in a T20 match against the Sri Lankans in 2016 remains the second highest individual score in Twenty20 cricket. His only ton in the ODI format also came against the Sri Lankans in the ICC World Cup 2015 where the Aussie went berserk to score a 51-ball century, the fastest by an Australian and the second quickest in World Cup history.

Here is the list of players who have scored hundreds in all three formats of the game:

2. Faf du Plessis (South Africa)

3. Chris Gayle (West Indies)
