Harbhajan Singh – Facts and records of the Sardar who never gives up: The Turbinator has been India’s cyclonic spinning phenomenon since the past decade and has produce a number of stunning match winning efforts for India. Harbhajan Singh Plaha has been one of the best off-spinners India have ever produced. In fact, ‘Bhajji’ has been one of the toughest guys in cricket who is never ready to accept defeat and he never gave up.

India’s most successful off-spinner made his test debut in March, 1998 but it didn’t pay off well for him. But the Sardar never backed off and continued with his stern efforts which ultimately turned out to be the most fruitful one as he grabbed 32 wickets in the 3-match test series against Australia in India. In fact, he became the first player to bunch a hat-trick for India. He led the spinning attack for India on a good number of occasions and took the team to a number of glorifying positions. He was the prime spinner in the squad in the 2003 World Cup and also in the 2011 World Cup where India were the finalists and the champions respectively.

Also, he played a brilliant role with the ball in the ICC World T20 in 2007 where India were crowned champions for the maiden time. Apart from tormenting the batsmen with his ‘doosra’-s and off-spinners, Harbhajan was indeed a pinch hitter and one of the most entertaining batsmen. In fact, the Sardar ji has got 2 back to back test centuries by his name. Apart from these, we know the aggressive tinges of this man too. Oppositions dared to get involved in a banter with this man as they had to pay off for them badly.

Harbhajan has been equally glorifying in his IPL career too and has been the spearhead of the spin attack for the Mumbai Indians since the first season. He has bowled numerous economic spells for the team that earned the team a good spot in the points table.

Achievements:

  • Harbhajan became the first Indian to take a hat-trick in tests for India. He took the hat-trick in the second test against Australia in Kolkata in 2001.
  • Harbhajan stands to be the 9th highest wicket taker in tests at the moment with 416 test wickets.
  • He was the member of the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy where India were the joined champions, 2003 World Cup where India were the runners up, 2007 ICC World 20 where India won the tournament, 2011 World Cup where India won the World Cup. He was also the member of the Mumbai Indians squad in 2013 and 2015 when they went onto become the IPL Champions.
  • Harbhajan stands to be the 23rd highest wicket taker in ODIs with 259 ODI wickets.
  • Harbhajan Singh became the second bowler with the most number of wickets in a 3-match test series. He bagged 32 wickets in the series against Australia in 2001.
  • Harbhajan Singh has won 3 Man of the Series awards in tests.
  • He has won 6 Man of the Match awards in tests and 3 Man of the Match awards in ODIs.
