Former Pakistan world cup winning skipper Imran Khan has shared a story of how Wasim Akram got selected into the national side. Imran recalled the day when they called bowlers from cricket club to practice with the selected cricketers, who were set to play against New Zealand. He said that Akram was impressive during that particular session and he went on to play international cricket from there on.

Akram went on to play 104 Test matches for Pakistan, picking 414 wickets and scoring close to 3000 runs. In ODIs, the left-arm fast bowler scalped 502 wickets and scored more than 3700 runs from 356 ODIs. He is known as one of the finest fast bowlers if not the best.

Imran’s narration

“We saw that one bowler was bowling better than the selected bowlers, so we did not ask for his name or anything, that bowler was Wasim,” said Imran revealed. Imran dropped a bomb last year after Pakistan’s exit from the Asia Cup by questioning the selection policy of the Pakistan team. He tweeted out some valid points as many took note of it. The green army went on to clinch the Champions Trophy this year by beating arch-rivals India in the finals.

Here are the tweets:

1.Pakistani cricket fans anger at the unceremonious exit of Pak team From T20 Asia Cup is understandable as our nation is oozing with talent.

2.However, this talent can only be polished if PCB becomes an institution built on merit, incl selection of its Head purely on merit.

3.But how can we expect this PM to select PCB chief on merit when all orgs are being headed by cronies/ppl rewarded for services to Sharifs

4.Even with the current team, if the correct combinations are played there is enough talent for success.
