It took about an hour for India on the 4th day to wrap up the series without any major issues chasing a small target other than losing a couple of wickets in an over. KL Rahul scored his 5th consecutive fifty while Rahane gave up the finishing touch to help India complete an 8-wicket win against the Australians at the Dharamsala to regain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Here we look at all the stats and numbers recorded during the day’s play and in the series:

2 – Ajinkya Rahane became the 2nd Indian captain to win first match as captain in each of the 3 formats. Virender Sehwag was the other captain. Virat Kohli is the only Indian captain to lose his first game in all the three formats.

3 – India became the 3rd team to hold a series win in Test cricket against remaining 9 teams. Only Australia (Oct 2004 – Sep 2005 and Dec 2007 – Nov 2008) and South Africa (Dec 2012 – Mar 2014) have done before.

4 – This series win is the 4th for India in Test cricket where they won coming behind from 0-1. Other three: vs England in 1972/73, vs Australia in 2001 and vs Sri Lanka in 2015.

5 – Number of man of the match awards Ravindra Jadeja has received in Test cricket, the most for an Indian since his debut in December, 2012. Only Steven Smith (7), Joe Root (6) and Rangana Herath (6) have more match awards in Tests than Jadeja in this period.

5 – Number of Indians including KL Rahul in this series has scored 6 or more fifty-plus scores in a Test series. Rusi Modi, Polly Umrigar, Sunil Gavaskar and Mohinder Amarnath (Twice) are the other 4 Indians with 6 or more fifty-plus scores in a Test series.

6 – Number of fifty-plus scores KL Rahul has scored in this series, the joint 2nd most by any player in a 4-match series. Patsy Hendren v WI in 1929/30 and Sunil Gavaskar v WI in 1970/71 had 7 scores of fifty or more.

6 – Number of fifties KL Rahul has scored in this series without a century, the joint most fifties for any player in a Test series without a century. Sir Conrad Hutton, Alan Border, Mike Atherton and Chris Rogers have had such series before.

  

7 – Number of consecutive Test series India have won so far, the joint 2nd longest series winning streak for any team. England and Australia won 9 series in a row in 1880-90s and 2000s respectively.

9 – Ajinkya Rahane became the 9th Indian captain to lead his side to a win. Other 8 captains are: Umrigar, Gavaskar, Shastri, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Sehwag, Kumble and Dhoni.

10 – Number of Tests India won in 2016/17 season, the joint 2nd most wins for any team in a season. Australia won 11 Tests in 2005/06 and 10 Tests in 1999/00 seasons.

2004 – Last time an India batsman in top 7 before Cheteshwar Pujara to be out for a duck run out in Test cricket was Rahul Dravid in 2004 vs Pakistan at Lahore.
