IPL 2017: Full schedule of Gujarat Lions

Led by captain Suresh Raina, Gujarat Lions are all set to kick start their last season in the Indian Premier League  (IPL) as they were brought in to fill in the gap for the suspended Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. The Rajkot-based franchise, owned by Intex Technologies had a praise-worthy debut season as they successfully reached the play-off stages before getting knocked out of the tournament.

In the 10th edition of the IPL Gujarat will begin their campaign by hosting the ever so popular Kolkata Knight Riders owned by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, at home. The enormous experience of captain Suresh Raina as a T20 player is a doubtless advantage for the side apart from his batting skills. The team also features Ravindra Jadeja who has grown massively as an all-rounder in recent times in all three formats of the game.

An absolute asset for his team, the world number 1 Test bowler is currently enjoying the best form of his career with the ball and is also an effective slogger with the bat. The batting line up also looks immensely strong for the team with power hitters like Brendon MacCullum and Aaron Finch at the top of the order.

There is much more to this team as the West Indian duo of Dwayne Bravo and Dwayne Smith will also be seen wearing the Gujarat jersey. While Bravo is one of the best all rounder’s in world cricket, Smith’s recent 31-ball century describes the ruthless form of the batter.

The bowling department has James Faulkner along with Bravo and Jadeja to make it a fiery department to deal with. A fair amount of Indian talents like Munaf Patel, Manpreet Gony provides a complete balance to the squad.

After settling the business with Kolkata Knight Riders the team will make a trip to Hyderabad in order to play the Sunrisers, who are the current holders of the trophy. This match will be followed by an encounter against the Rising Pune Supergiants at home, which is believed to be one of the toughest matches of the tournament.
