One of Australia’s finest cricketers Justin Langer who is currently coaching the Western Australia and Perth Scorchers team has predicted that Mitch Marsh’s shoulder injury will be a blessing in disguise and that the all-rounder will resume cricket faster than thought. Marsh is set on the sidelines as of now after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder last week.

The 25-year-old was expected to miss between six and nine months at first, putting doubts on his availability for the Ashes, which starts in November. But Langer feels Marsh is on track to return earlier than expected. He endured a difficult time over the past year and his inconsistent batting at Test level saw him cop criticism on social media.

His sore shoulder meanwhile is only limiting his bowling capabilities. Marsh can become a world-class all-rounder, but poor form and injuries curbed his progress. Langer is hopeful that Marsh’s injury from the game will prove to be a turning point. “Hopefully this will be a good thing for him,” he said.

“It will be the first time for a long time he’s got some time to spend at home. Not being on the treadmill of the international circuit, he can get himself fit, and he can do some work on his batting particularly. And also he can play without pain. He’s been in pain for most of the season. It’s unfortunate it got to the point where he needed surgery.” Langer said.

For most of the summer, Marsh carried his shoulder injury with him. Langer couldn’t help but feel a little annoyed with national selectors who kept involving Marsh despite the soreness. But he also understands those were situations where there were no right answers.

“I get it, but I don’t get it,” Langer said. “I get why Mitch Marsh is such an attractive player for the selectors. I understand he’s got such a good package. But on the other hand I don’t get it, because we know he’s had a sore shoulder for so long” he concluded.
