An unusual but pretty human incident happened on the first day of the first Test match between India and Australia. The game was pretty well set with the visitors winning the toss and batting first (which is considered an advantage) on a wicket that had turn written all over it. The openers batted really well, David Warner and Matt Renshaw didn’t just give a wicket but also scored with authority and assurance that definitely put the Indians on the back foot.

But just a few minutes ahead of lunch Indian skipper Virat Kohli handed the ball to Umesh Yadav now the specialist reverse swing bowler and he struck in the very first over as Warner dragged one onto his stumps. While he walked off, we saw Renshaw talk to the umpire Richard Kettelborough and suddenly was leaving the field and his batting partner Steve Smith who was just walking in was confused as to what was happening.

It turned out the man had to immediately attend nature’s call the one which can never be ignored. He came back and scored a characteristic half-century, one that will enhance the reputation of the 20-year-old to a substantial extent.

In the press meet after the end of day’s play, Renshaw said, “It came pretty suddenly. Probably five or 10 minutes before Davey (David Warner) got out I asked Richard (Kettleborough) how long there was till lunch, he gave me the answer of ‘half an hour’and I was struggling a bit then. It wasn’t an ideal situation to be in.

When asked about Smith’s reaction he said, “Smith wasn’t too thrilled about it but he understands when you need to go to the toilet, you’ve got to go to the toilet. It wasn’t an ideal scenario but it’s life pretty much.”

Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar was also asked for a response to it and he too felt it was something unavoidable. “When you have to answer the nature’s call no amount of will power and mind power can control that.” Bangar said.
