Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced the 14 man squad of the Mumbai team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017. Vijay Hazare Trophy is the premier domestic one-day tournament of India. The tournament kicks off on February 25 and ends on March 6, 2017. Aditya Tare, who had earlier led the team in the Ranji Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Zonal tournament, has been named as the skipper of the one-day team too.

Veteran all-rounder Abhishek Nayar is most likely to be his deputy in the tournament. Opening batsman Shreyas Iyer is accompanied with his opening partner Akhil Herwadkar. Both Iyer and Herwadkar were more recently seen playing for India A in the warm-up fixture against Australia at Mumbai. While Iyer made merry and was amongst the runs, Herwadkar failed with the bat.

Young batting sensation Prithvi Shaw has also found a place in the team for the tournament. Among the bowlers, Dhawal Kulkarni and Shardul Thakur continue to be the two leading pacers of the team. Veteran warhorse Pravin Tambe is named in the squad too along with Shivam Malhotra and Aditya Dhumal. Shivam Dube and Sufiyan Shaikh have continued to maintain their spots in the lineup as well.

Here is the complete 14-man squad of team Mumbai for Vijay Hazare Inter-State One Day Limited Overs League:

Aditya Tare (c), Abhishek Nayar, Shreyas Iyer, Siddhesh Lad, Akhil Herwadkar, Prithvi Shaw, Shivam Dube, Sufiyan Shaikh, Dhawal Kulkarni, Shardul Thakur, Shivam Malhotra, Pravin Tambe, Aditya Dhumal, Vijay Gohil.

The joint Honorable Secretary of the MCA, Prof. Dr. Unmesh Khanvilkar, signed the official squad sheet for the tournament. Mumbai have been a strong force when it comes to the domestic circuit in India. They made it to the finals of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17 under the leadership of Aditya Tare. They lost to Gujarat in the finals of the tournament. The T20 tournament was decent enough for them. Now, the team will be hoping to put up a better show in the One-day tournament.
