The toughest series of the season, the India vs Australia Border-Gavaskar Trophy has finally concluded, though the result went the way many expected but the kind of fight back the Australian team managed wasn’t gauged before both teams took the field in Pune. A lot was going on around with the Australian media as well as former players also jumped in to put pressure on the Indians. Now, after the series ended Mitchell Johnson suggested that Ajinkya Rahane should stay the captain.

Indian captain Virat Kohli injured himself in the Ranchi Test and was ruled out of the last match at Dharamsala. In his absence, Rahane was leading the team and he did a fantastic job. The team played the aggressive brand of cricket they are known for and were still pretty much inside the line. He managed the bowling really well and set up fields that complimented his bowlers.

What prompted Johnson to suggest Rahane as the full-time option for the Indian skipper was Virat’s comment in the post-match press conference. The Indian captain wasn’t pleased with the way the Aussies behaved and said he was wrong when he said that they have a friendly relation with the Australian players ahead of the start of the series.

“I’m really good friends with all these guys off the field. “I know them really well, but I know where to draw the line of friendship. “When you step onto the field, I could be playing against my big brother it wouldn’t matter.” Kohli had said before the start of the Pune Test.

Today, he said, “No, it has changed. I thought that was the case, but it has changed for sure. As I said, in the heat of the battle you want to be competitive but I’ve been proven wrong. The thing I said before the first Test, that has certainly changed and you won’t hear me say that ever again.”

After the end of the game, Johnson quoted an article with Virat’s comments and tweeted- “Rahane should stay captain! It was a tough series but I believe it should stay on the field with the players”

The heat between the Aussies and the Indians certainly seems to not die out despite the end of the series.
