Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif took to twitter to congratulate and give his best wishes to the newly appointed Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh- Yogi Adityanath. The five-time Member of Parliament from Gorakhpur, Adityanath was sworn in as the CM of Uttar Pradesh in Lucknow almost a week after BJP’s historic win in the assembly elections in India’s largest state.

Kaif, a veteran of 125 ODI’s and 13 Tests, tweeted that people should be patient with the new government rather than forming speculations already. Kaif last played for India in 2006 and finished with 2753 and 624 runs in ODI and Test matches respectively.

He wrote – “Everyone has an opinion, but rather than speculating, the best we should do is wish the newly formed govts. good luck for India’s progress 1/2”

In the second part of his tweet Kaif wrote- “I convey my best wishes to @yogi_adityanath ji for taking UP on the path of development and ensuring a great future for the people of UP 2/2”

A former Lok Sabha candidate from Phulpur, Kaif contested in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections on an Indian National Congress ticket but finished fourth with a meager 58,127 votes which were almost 10% of the votes collected by the winning BJP candidate, Keshav Prasad Maurya. During the campaigning, Kaif had famously said that “he was willing to leave cricket to serve the people of his constituency, if the need arises”.

Since then he has moved on from politics and now captains Chhattisgarh in the Ranji Trophy, India’s premiere domestic cricket competition. Having played almost all his career for his home state Uttar Pradesh, Kaif moved to Chhattisgarh as a professional last season.

After BJP completed a rare win in UP, Kaif congratulated PM Narender Modi on Twitter and also got a reply from the honorable PM of India. Although he was involved with Congress which is the opposition party of the ruling BJP, Kaif didn’t show any disappointment with the results and wanted his fans to support the newly elected government.
