Things seem to not be going MS Dhoni’s way. First, the Jharkhand team hotel in the Dwarka area of New Delhi caught fire, their semi-final match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy was postponed, they eventually played it yesterday (March 18) but lost to Bengal. To add to it as per reports the former Indian skipper has lodged a FIR with Delhi Police for three missing mobile phones that were possibly stolen from the hotel.

The Welcome Hotel in Dwarka was hosting the Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu teams both being semi-finalists of the domestic One-Day tournament. At 6 a.m. on March 17, the hotel caught fire, it was detected before it spread wild and all the 500+ guests were evacuated safely. Though the players managed to escape unhurt, their baggage and equipments were still caught up in the hotel and so the semi-final was pushed by a day.

Delhi Fire Services were informed about the same and called to the spot at about 7:00 a.m. nearly 30 fire engines were deployed to extinguish the fire. The team as per schedule reached the Palam Airforce Ground in Delhi where they met the match officials and briefed them about the situation and the match referee took the decision to postpone the match and reschedule it to March 18.

Batting first Bengal scored 329 powered by twin centuries from their openers Shreevats Goswami and Abhimanyu Easwaran and half century from captain Manoj Tiwary. Jharkhand in their reply had a poor start and despite a 70-run knock from Dhoni and 59 from Ishank Jaggi could only manage 288 runs and thus were knocked out of the tournament.

After the game Jharkhand players stated that they desperately wanted to win and the skipper was not pleased with the under par show in the game that knocked them out of title contention. “We desperately wanted to make it into the final. It was Mahi bhai’s desire to win the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Our bowlers lacked consistency. You don’t expect such kind of bowling in a semifinal match,” a player quoted.

“Because of poor fielding and lack of consistency in bowling, they (Bengal) were able to put up 330 runs. Dhoni bhai was not pleased with that and for the first time I saw him so upset. You don’t expect Dhoni bhai to lose his calm. He is the one who always backs us,” he added further.
