Rajasthan Royals continued their winning run in the Indian Premier League as the Royals notched up their fourth successive victory in as many matches when they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets in a low scoring thriller at Visakhapatnam. With this win, Royals now stay at the top of the points table with 8 points from 4 matches.

Chasing 128 to win, Royals openers Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson got them off to a steady start as the duo saw off the new ball threat of Trent Boult and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Both put on a 64 run partnership off the first ten overs before Samson was dismissed by Ravi Bopara for 26. In-form skipper Steve Smith didn’t last long as he was caught by his Aussie compatriot David Warner at covers for 13. Karun Nair followed Smith soon after leggie Karn Sharma had in caught and bowled for just 1. Rahane stayed calm, notched up his fifty and took his side to a strong position before he was castled by Trent Boult for 62. Stuart Binny in the company of James Faulkner managed to sneak their side home off the last ball when 1 was needed off it. Ravi Bopara was the pick of the Sunrisers bowlers with figures of 2-18.

Earlier put into bat, Sunrisers Hyderbad got off to a shaky start as they lost Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner and KL Rahul in quick succession. Naman Ojha and Eoin Morgan steadied the ship with a 54 ball 52 run partnership for the fourth wicket before veteran spinner Pravin Tambe struck twice in quick succession. Some lusty blows from Ravi Bopara and Ashish Reddy towards the end took them to 127-5 in 20 overs, a below par score on a batsmen friendly wicket. Dhawal Kulkarni and Tambe were the pick of the bowlers as they picked up two wickets each for the Royals.

Brief Scorecard: Sunrisers Hyderabad 127-5 (Eoin Morgan 27, Ravi Bopara 23*, Dhawal Kulkarni 2-9, Pravin Tambe 2-21) lost to Rajasthan Royals 131-5 (Ajinkya Rahane 62, Sanju Samson 26, Ravi Bopara 2-18) by 6 wickets.

Ajinkya Rahane named Man of the Match for his 14th IPL fifty.
