Team Bangladesh have had a tough time at home in the last couple of weeks. After losing the ODI tri-series, the team lost the Test series 1-0 as well. And now, with the T20I series coming up, the Bangladeshi team looks dented even before the series has commenced. Veteran cricketer Shakib Al Hasan is a doubtful starter in the series for the hosts.

Shakib Al Hasan is suffering from a hand injury that is almost set to rule him out of the T20I series. He is certainly not in line to play the first T20I which will be played on February 15, 2018. However, Bangladesh chief selector Minhajul Abedin looked very optimistic about Shakib’s return. He hopes to see Shakib Al Hasan back in the Bangladeshi lineup for the second T20I.

Commenting on the injury, Shakib sustained an injury to his bowling arm during the finals of the ODI series. He had to receive stitches following the injury. This ruled him out of the Test series as well, and Mahmudullah led the team in the series. Shakib is the T20I team in the Bangladeshi national cricket setup.

“We knew that he might not be available for the opening T20 but we are hopeful that he will be in back in action when we will play the series concluding game in Sylhet,” Minhajul quoted as per the quotes in DailyNews.lk.

Shakib not so optimistic

While the team management looked optimistic in their approach, Shakib Al Hasan himself looked skeptical. He was more practical in his response to the same question. Shakib noted that he might not feature in the T20I series. Also, he revealed that the doctors have told him about the two week long recovery period that he would need. Hence, he has set his sights on the Nidahas Trophy for his potential comeback to the national side.

“I don’t think I will be available in the T20 series. The doctor told me that it will take two weeks to heal fully. I am looking forward to playing in the Nidahas Cup by completing my rehab fully during the upcoming two weeks,” Shakib Al Hasan quoted.
