Eoin Morgan has been appointed as the new President of the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA). He is now the role's 10th incumbent, replacing outgoing president Charlotte Edwards.

Edwards was the first female president of the PCA and she was elected for the prestigious role in 2021. She succeeded Graham Gooch. Now, England's only 50-over World Cup-winning captain, Morgan, is going to be at the helm of the association.

The southpaw, who is 37 years old, brought the curtains down on his illustrious career in 2022 and has been seen doing commentary stints in various countries. Morgan played 16 Tests, 248 ODIs, and 115 T20Is in his career and scored 10,859 runs. During his tenure at the helm of the national team, the Three Lions became a powerhouse in white-ball cricket, especially in ODIs, as they switched to a very aggressive approach after the 2015 ODI World Cup debacle.

Morgan also sat on the Team England Player Partnership (TEPP) Management Board during his captaincy stint with the national team.

"I delighted to announce that I have been appointed as the new President of the Professional Cricketers’ Association. Having been a PCA member for 19 years, it gives me an overwhelming sense of gratitude and honour to be provided this prestigious opportunity," Morgan wrote on his official 'X' handle.

Welsh all-rounder and PCA Chair, James Harris, who has played domestic cricket alongside Morgan, lauded his achievements and said that he is looking forward to working with the Dublin-born once again.

"What Eoin Morgan has achieved for England cricket is indisputable. As a former teammate, Eoin understands the challenges and the opportunities that are ahead of us and I look forward to working with him again," Harris was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

PCA Chief Executive, Rob Lynch also sang praises of Morgan and also admitted that he has been inspired by his leadership skills and his knowledge of the game.

"I would like to congratulate Eoin on his election as PCA President and pay tribute to the outgoing Charlotte Edwards MBE for her work over the last three years," Lynch said.

"I have personally known Eoin for many years and have been inspired by his leadership, calming influence and knowledge of all aspects of cricket. I very much look forward to seeking his wise counsel as we continue to navigate the changing nature of the game to ensure the player voice is represented in the many debates that lie ahead. I could not think of any player with more global experience than Eoin to help us achieve our goals," he added.
