In a thrilling encounter at the Ekana Stadium in  Lucknow, Rajasthan Royals (RR) emerged victorious against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in match 44 of the IPL 2024 (Indian Premier League), held on Saturday, April 27. It was a clash that showcased brilliant batting performances from both sides, but ultimately, it was the Royals who prevailed, winning by seven wickets with six balls to spare.

Being put in to bat first after losing the toss, Lucknow Super Giants got off to a shaky start losing Quinton de Kock and Marcus Stoinis early on for just 11 runs on the board. However, KL Rahul, the captain, anchored the innings superbly, scoring a scintillating 76 off 48 deliveries. Deepak Hooda also played a crucial role with a quickfire 50 off 31 balls. These efforts propelled Lucknow to a competitive total of 196/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

In response, the Rajasthan Royals started strongly with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler providing a solid foundation. Buttler's aggressive 34 off 18 balls set the tone early on. However, it was Sanju Samson who stole the show with an outstanding unbeaten knock of 71 runs from just 33 deliveries. His innings was laced with seven fours and four sixes, which helped his team steer to victory. Dhruv Jurel's brisk 52 off 34 balls ensured RR chased down the target comfortably, reaching 199/3 in 19 overs.

For LSG, despite notable efforts from KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda, they couldn't contain the Royals' batting onslaught. Yash Thakur was the pick of the bowlers for Lucknow, claiming a wicket but conceding runs at 12.50 an over.

Sanju Samson's exceptional performance with the bat earned him the Player of the Match award, rightly recognizing his match-winning innings that propelled the Rajasthan Royals to a crucial victory in the tournament.

After the game, Samson, the Player of the Match, attributed their victory to luck and team effort. He praised the bowlers' role in the power-play overs and highlighted the importance of planning behind the scenes. Samson acknowledged the team's strong start and finish but noted some weaknesses in the middle overs.
