The recent clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings in the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024 was quite a spectacle to witness. Both sides locked horns in the 42nd game of the tournament at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday, April 26.

The clash was a run-fest, as after KKR posted a mammoth total of 261 runs on the board in the first innings, Punjab’s batting attack chased down the target with relative ease and even won the game by eight wickets.

As Jonny Bairstow powered his way to a ton, Prabhsimran Singh opened the innings with a score of 54 runs. Furthermore, Shashank Singh played an unbeaten knock of 68* runs in 28 deliveries, which helped Punjab Kings win the game.

Seeing the clash, veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to show sympathy to the bowlers in the clash. Taking to X, Ashwin posted, “‘Save the bowlers’ someone plsss.”

It was a forgettable outing for bowlers on both sides. In the first innings, as KKR posted a total of 261 runs, PBKS’ Sam Curran conceded 60 runs in four overs, Kagiso Rabada conceded 52 runs in three overs, and Harshal Patel conceded 48 runs in three overs.

On the other hand, in the second innings, KKR’s Harshit Rana conceded the most runs; in the four overs he bowled, the pacer conceded 61 runs to his name. Varun Chakravarthy conceded 46 runs in three overs, whereas Dushmantha Chameera conceded 48 runs in three overs.

Punjab Kings work their way up the points table

After registering a historic win against Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings continue to work their way up the points table. With nine games played, Kings have managed to win three and lose the remaining six. With six points in nine games, the chances for playoff qualification are still alive for the side.

For their next game, Punjab Kings travel to the MA Chidambaram Stadium as they take on defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the 49th game of the tournament on Wednesday, May 1.
