It always feels great when a legend drops by during the practice sessions and shares some knowledge. The Black Caps today had one such visitor when Sourav Ganguly gladly offered his know-how, demonstrating a few drives near the centre wicket on the eve of the second Test.

The Kiwis faced quite a bit of trouble in the first Test where Ravichandran Ashwin claimed a 10 wicket haul. Therefore, anyone experienced offering them advice to tackle the spin menace would be gladly welcomed in the New Zealand camp. And, the visitors would be more than happy to have India’s second most successful skipper join them in the team practice.

The Cricket Association of Bengal president was seen having a chat with New Zealand batting coach Craig McMillan and another support staff who were paying a lot of attention to the former left-hander advice.

Ganguly quickly grabbed the bat and went on to demonstrate a few strokes through the V. The Eden strip has been in the news after it was reported that it would lack spin as the grass was further trimmed this morning.

“The ball is likely to move in the first two days and there should be turn from day three. We have got Bermuda grass that makes the wicket harder as the ball travels faster. The best part is it grows quicker and takes away the moisture,” Ganguly, who was seen checking the firmness of the pitch with a key, said.

Earlier, the news broke that Ganguly was stuck in a 29-year-old lift at the Eden Gardens. The incident happened when the CAB chief was going to his office. Security guards quickly came to the rescue and brought him out of the lift which stopped working mid-way between two floors.
