South Africa’s T20 Skipper, Faf Du Plessis credits IPL for the team’s success in sub-continent: When it comes to subcontinental soils, a number of cricketers find it difficult to adjust to the conditions and as a result of which there is a dip in the performances. But the Proteas have been reasonably successful in the sub-continental soils in the recent past and have been onto their full fledged strengths in the Asian subcontinent.

The coach of the South African cricket team, Russell Domingo said of the fact that the players enjoy playing such conditions and the sub-continent happens to bring the best out of South Africa.

When it comes to success rates, South Africa happens to possess a better success rate in the matches held at the Asian sub-continent than the likes of teams like England or Australia.

In fact, South Africa managed to win 16 out of 28 ODIs, 11 out of 17 T20Is and 3 out of 8 tests in the sub-continent since 2010. The present South African T20 skipper, Faf Du Plessis credits the Indian Premier League as the cause for such an overwhelming success in the sub-continent.

Du Plessis said to ESPNcricinfo that the players enjoy playing under such conditions. He added, “The IPL is probably the biggest reason we have had success in the sub-continent. South African players enjoy playing in the IPL and over the period of eight IPLs, South African players have had reasonably good tournaments there.”

Faf has been of full praises for the IPL. South Africa will be playing a test and an ODI series against Bangladesh in Bangladesh and they have arrived there already.

In fact, the next World T20 will be played in India in March-April, 2016 and this has heightened the importance of the IPL and South Africa will be playing series against India in October-November in India.

Faf du Plessis said, “It’s my responsibility as a captain to make sure the guys are looking at conditions here and looking ahead to the World T20. This series is very important for us because our eye is still on the World T20 in India.”

He further added that one of the most threatening challenges to cope up with the conditions of the sub-continent is the heat and the players get to adjusted of it in real quick time. Faf said, “”The heat is always the first challenge for a team touring the subcontinent. It was pretty warm when we walked outside the change-room now. It’s in that first week or so where you get used to the conditions.” This is perhaps one of the major reasons why South Africa has arrived Bangladesh five days ahead of the test series.
