Sri Lanka v India the Lanka report card – Sri Lanka player ratings: Finally the 3-match Test series between Sri Lanka and India came to an end with the Indian team winning the series 2-1. It was after 22 long years that India could beat Sri Lanka in their den in a Test series. The series also marked the end of Kumar Sangakkara’s glorious international cricket career. Though Sri Lanka had won the 1st Test match but after that India turned the tables and staged an outstanding comeback in the series to win the last two Tests of the series.

Sri Lanka’s inexperienced batting line-up once again faltered and it was their second consecutive Test series loss at home, this year. Earlier, the Pakistani side had also defeated them by a margin of 2-1. Lankan’s are really struggling as their over-reliance on the pair of Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara is getting exposed and life of Sri Lankan team after their retirement seems to be damn difficult.

So here we present the Sri Lanka v India the Lanka report card – Sri Lanka player ratings:

1. Upul Tharanga – 0/10:

The Sri Lankan southpaw Upul Tharanga got only 1 Test match to play in the series in which he couldn’t even cross the single digit mark. Upul scored 4 runs in the match and became the victim of Ishant Sharma in both the innings.

2. Kaushal Silva – 2/10:

The Sri Lankan opener Kaushal Silva also fared up poorly in the series and was unable to give good starts to the team which exposed the Lankan batting line-up. Silva scored 87 runs in 3 Test matches at an average of 14.50 with highest score of 51 runs in the 1st innings of the 2nd Test match at P Sara Oval.

3. Dimuth Karunaratne – 1.5/10:

Though in the recent times Karunaratne has displayed solid batting upfront for the Lankan side but this was certainly a series which he would like to forget. He could manage only 67 runs in the six innings he played in the series at an average of 11.16 and couldn’t even cross the 50 run mark once in the series. Dimuth’s failures in the series were one of the critical factors which contributed to Lanka’s loss in the series

4. Kumar Sangakkara – 3/10:

The Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara who retired from international cricket after the 2nd Test at P Sara Oval didn’t end his career on a high but that doesn’t take anything away from his magnificent cricketing career. Sanga aggregated 95 runs in 2 Tests and averaged 23.75 with highest score of 40. Ashwin scalped his wicket for 4 consecutive times in the series.

5. Dinesh Chandimal – 7/10:

The hero of the 1st Test match, Dinesh Chandimal had a rather indifferent series. In the Galle Test, Chandimal amassed 221 runs in the match and led his side to victory. But in the subsequent 2 Test matches, Dinesh could manage only 67 runs. Overall, he scored 288 runs in 3 matches at an average of almost 58.

6. Angelo Mathews – 8.5/10:

The Sri Lankan skipper Mathews waged a lone battle throughout the series. Had he got adequate support from the other end, the score-line of the series might well have been different. In the series, Mathews hammered 339 runs at an average 56.50 with two centuries and both of them came at a time when Sri Lanka was struggling for life in the match. He took 4 wickets in the series as well.

7. Lahiru Thirimanne – 3/10:

Since 2014, Thirimanne has been struggling in the whites and averages 19.47 without any century to his credit. And this series was no different as his prolonged slump in form continued. Lahiru scored 142 runs at an average of 23.66 and scored his lone half-century of the series in the 1st innings of the P Sara Oval Test.

8. Jehan Mubarak – 2.5/10:

Till now Mubarak has played 13 Tests for Sri Lanka and is yet to register a half-century. In this series as well he couldn’t reach the 50 run mark though he came close to the feat in the 2nd innings of the 1st Test when he scored 49 runs. Overall, Mubarak could score only 71 runs in the 2 Test matches he played at an average of 17.75

9. Kusal Perera – 7/10:

Perera who made his Test debut in the series decider had a dream debut with the bat as he piled up scores of 55 and 70 runs respectively in the two innings of the Test. The southpaw scored those runs at a strike rate of 77 which makes the runs even more special. And in both the innings he came at a time when his side was reeling.

10. Dhammika Prasad – 7.5/10:

Now, Sri Lanka have finally found a genuine pacer and a strike-bowler. We are obviously talking about Dhammika Prasad who scalped 15 wickets in the 3-match Test series. Prasad continued his merry run with the ball and it seemed he started from where he had left in the Test series against Pakistan.

11. Nuwan Pradeep – 5/10:

Pradeep certainly has the caliber to become the leading fast-bowler of the side though he needs to polish himself further to realize his potentials. Nuwan played 2 Test matches and grabbed 8 scalps. 5 of the 8 wickets came in the 3rd Test.

12. Rangana Herath – 7/10:

Herath had emerged as the protagonist for his side when he took 7 wickets in the 2nd innings of the 1st Test match at Galle. But since then, he couldn’t trouble the Indian batsmen as much as he would have liked and that had a deep impact on the outcome of the series. Rangana took 15 wickets in 3 Test matches.

13. Tharindu Kaushal – 6/10:

Tharindu Kaushal had performed exceedingly well in the 1st Test match in which he took 8 wickets. But he couldn’t continue his good run of form in the reminder of the series and managed only 5 wickets in the last 2 Tests. Overall, Kaushal took 13 wickets in the series.

14. Dushmantha Chameera – 1/10:

The Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera featured only in the 2nd Test match but didn’t have any significant impact in the match due to which others were preferred over him in the series decider. Chameera took 2 wickets in the only match he played.
