Australian skipper Steve Smith responded to South African ODI skipper AB de Villiers on his reservations about the day-night Test matches. The Chief Executive of Cricket Australia, James Sutherland, maintained that the 3rd Test of South Africa’s tour down under this year will be a day-night Test played with the pink ball.

Earlier, South African Test skipper AB de Villiers had voiced his concerns over the day-night Tests. “We had a meeting with Steven Smith and some of the Australian players when they toured here earlier this year, and the consensus from our talks were that there are just too many unknowns. Players from both teams were reluctant to go ahead with it,” is what he had quoted back then.

“At the moment, we are not too keen on playing in the proposed day-night Test match due to a few concerns that have come from a number of sources involved in the maiden Test played last year,” AB de Villiers had added.

Commenting on this, the Australian skipper said that he never gave any negative feedback about the first-ever day-night Test played last year at Adelaide. Steve Smith, in a talk with Cricket Australia, said that the Australian team is ready to take on the Proteas in a day-night game this year.

“I know having spoken to them, a few of their older players were keen to experience day-night Test cricket before they finish playing. The feedback we gave them was that Adelaide is the best place to play it, in our opinion,” quoted Steve Smith.

Smith also expressed he was surprised at the remarks made by AB de Villiers. “I don’t know where they’ve got their ideas from. If they wanted to play one we’d be happy to. I’m surprised that he named me”, Smith added.
