Trip to memory lane: Virat Kohli pranked by Sachin Tendulkar

Virat Kohli is arguably the best batsman in world cricket at the moment. His consistency across the three formats of the game speaks volumes about his character and style of play. Make no mistake, Virat has been very much successful in shouldering the billion hopes after the retirement of hitherto master Sachin Tendulkar.

Ever since Sachin Tendulkar retired from international cricket, Kohli has become his successor when it comes to being the batting mainstay of the team. Interestingly, it is worth noting that the two masters of the game share great camaraderie between them. Time and again Kohli has praised Sachin and often called him as the god of cricket.

On the other hand, Sachin, too, has showered praises on Virat every now and then. When Kohli smacked a powerful fifty during the ICC World T20 2016 match against Pakistan, he had bowed down in respect to Sachin Tendulkar.

Now, taking a deep dive in the memory lane, there was a time when Sachin Tendulkar had actually pranked Virat Kohli. When a young Virat had made it to the national side, he was shy rubbing shoulders with the big boys of Indian cricket then. Soon after he arrived at a net session one day, the fellow players told him that every new player in the side is expected to touch the feet of Sachin.

Sachin, at that time, was batting in the nets. Kohli took the words of his team mate seriously and went to Tendulkar. He then touched his feet. Sachin, who was very amused with the gesture, stopped Kohli and told him that it was all a little prank that the players played on him. Well, truth be told, the amount of respect Kohli has for Sachin, the gesture was bound to come some day or other. After all, Kohli had once sung a song for Sachin with the lyrics hinting that he sees god in him.
