Sri Lanka began the series with a massive 259 run victory over their Asian counterparts. Bangladesh went to Sri Lanka after a crushing defeat at the hands of the World number one team India. This series was very tough for the tigers as they were going in with little experience and confidence was blown away by the mighty Indians.

The first Test did not see any difference in their form but come to the Test match in Colombo, Bangladesh looked a different team altogether. They were out bowling with intent and had plans for different Lankan batsmen. Sri Lanka struggled to score big in both their innings as they ended up with 338 in the first and 319 in the second.

Bangladesh capitalized on the same as they took advantage of a low first innings total of Sri Lanka as they were powered by their star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan to a humongous 467. They took a massive 129 run first innings lead as Hasan scored 116 while opener Soumya Sarkar and Mosaddek Hossain Saikat scored 61 and 75 respectively.

Sri Lanka in reply again struggled with the bat as Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan ran through the Sri Lankan batting order. The Lions managed a total of 319 runs in the second innings but were 129 behind in the first innings. Dimuth Karunaratne scored a wonderful century to take Sri Lanka to a commendable score.

This meant that Bangladesh needed to 191 runs to win the Test match and level the two-match series. The tigers chased it down with a bit of a fumble by the middle order. They started off well with Tamim Iqbal taking the matters into his own hands. He almost scored half the runs for his team. Iqbal scored 82 runs and missed out on what looked like a certain match-winning century.

The middle order struggled and were taken apart by the Rangana Herath and co. Bangladesh eventually defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets and levelled the two-match series. This is a huge confidence booster for the men in green after some morale-crushing defeats.

Twitter applauded the Bangladeshi effort and trolled Sri Lanka. Here are some of the best tweets from Bangladesh’s victory over Sri Lanka.
