Over the years, Test cricket has seen some great batsman. As stylish as Sachin, As classy as Lara, as intense as Ponting, as royal as Kallis and as rock solid as Rahul Dravid. Gone are the days when you see the batsmen displaying a virtuous knock with full patience.

Ever since the inception of the T20 Internationals, there has been a shift in the mind process. Indeed, there have been instances where the scoring rate has been taken into account while analyzing how a batsman has performed in an innings.

Cheteshwar Pujara redefined the vintage by playing an unbelievable knock and lasting more than 500 balls. In one of the finest innings you would ever see, Pujara played a classic Test match knock which has not only put India at a strong position but has tired Australian players to a physical level.

Pujara also went on to smash his third double century in Tests. He has been well supported by Saha who also went on to score a century. Both tortured Australian players on the field with some significant batting performance on Day 4 of the third Test at Ranchi.

Talking about Cheteshwar Pujara, he broke a number of records with this magnificent knock. He became the first ever Indian batsman to face 500 balls in an innings in longest format of the game. The earlier record was held by Rahul Dravid who faced 495 balls in his innings against Pakistan during the 2004 tour.

Australia failed to pick a single wicket in the first two sessions as Cheteshwar Pujara’s marathon knock created all sorts of trouble for Australia. Steve Smith seemed clueless as a captain. He had tried everything at his bay, but nothing would stop Pujara.

Here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place regarding Pujara’s marathon innings
