India took an unassailable lead in the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan as they beat them by six wickets in the second T20I on Sunday, January 14 at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore. After being put in to bat first, Afghanistan got all out for 172 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, India chased down the target in just 15.4 overs with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube scoring breathtaking half-centuries.

India’s chase didn’t get off to a good start as captain Rohit Sharma once again failed to score getting dismissed for a golden duck as Fazalhaq Farooqi destroyed his stumps. Following his dismissal, Virat Kohli walked to the crease after 14 months in T20Is and got involved in a quick 57-run stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal off just 28 balls.

However, the star batter failed to convert his start and got dismissed for 29 off 16 holing out to mid-off against Naveen-ul-Haq. Following his dismissal, Shivam Dube joined Jaiswal at the crease and the duo unleashed their best mode on Afghanistan adding 92 runs off just 42 balls for the third wicket. Jaiswal was dismissed for 68 (34) in the 13th over while Dube took the side home with an unbeaten 63* off 32 balls along with Rinku Singh (9* off 9). Karim Janat was the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan who picked 2/13 in two overs.

Earlier in the day, after being put in to bat first, Afghanistan lost their opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz (14 off 9) in the third over itself. Captain Ibrahim Zadran also failed to get going and got dismissed for 8 off 10 in the sixth over against Axar Patel. Afghanistan’s powerplay was lit up by Gulbadin Naib who scored a brilliant 57 off 35 smashing five fours and four sixes in his innings.

Cameos from Karim Janat (20 off 10) and Mujeeb ur Rahman (21 off 9) propelled Afghanistan’s score to 172/10 in their allotted 20 overs.

Arshdeep Singh (3/32) was the pick of the bowlers from India while Axar Patel (2/17) and Ravi Bishnoi (2/39) picked up two wickets each.
