Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has been appointed as the Brand Ambassador for the Kings XI Punjab for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. Sehwag saw out his final IPL career with the Punjab-based team a couple of seasons ago has also been named as the Head of Operations and Strategy as well for the same team.

Sehwag’s earlier role was a much more hands-on role as far as cricket was concerned given the fact that he was their chief mentor and also proved to be a mainstay in the dugout as well. However, the previous season also ensured that it was not the best as far as the Kings were concerned.

Initially, it was the poor results that let them down, but there was also a bit of unsettlement when reports from various sources went on to read that there was a rift between the owner Preity Zinta and coach Sanjay Bangar over a few issues.

Commenting on the appointment, Kings XI Punjab said: “With Viru’s vast knowledge and expertise, it is a matter of great pride for Kings XI Punjab to have him mentor the squad this season. We are absolutely confident that his experience and ability will add great value to the franchise and wish him the best in his new role.”

“It is such an honor to lead this team and mentor our young talent. Kings XI Punjab is a team very close to my heart and I am looking forward to a great season with them.”
