Watch: Azhar Mahmood wins a match for Surrey with a last ball Six in the Natwest T20 Blast: Former Pakistan all-rounder and T20 player, Azhar Mahmood managed to pull off a last ball six to win the match for Surrey against Gloucestershire in a county match at The Oval in the Natwest T20 Blast encounter on Wednesday.

Coming in lower down the order, the 40-year old all-rounder scored a match winning cameo of 22 runs off 14 deliveries to seal in the game for the Surrey. And a six of the ultimate ball of the innings added to the brilliance of his effort to an amplified extent.

Batting first on a sultry day, Gloucestershire managed to put up a total of 154 runs on the board for the loss of 5 wickets. In the chase, Surrey maintained the asking rate but kept on losing wickets taking things down to the wire with 6 runs required off the final ball, with Azhar Mahmood on strike.

On the delivery from Craig Miles, Mahmood did strike with intense brute force to ensure that the ball goes out of the ground for a six. It did happen accordingly.

Overwhelmed at his effort, Mahmood said to the media, “I knew when I connected that it would be six. I had missed the previous ball, which was also short, and I thought the last one would also be short. There was a bit of a delay between the last two balls, as they discussed with the bowler what he was to do, and that helped me because I had a little bit more time to get myself calm and collected.”

The Gloucestershire skipper, Michael Klinger refused to put the blame upon Miles and claimed that it could have gone anyway and sadly for the part of Gloucestershire, the game did not go in their way.
