10 Lesser known facts about Mohit Sharma – The steady warrior: Indian seamer Mohit Sharma celebrates his 27th birthday today, the right-arm medium-fast bowler has always hung on to consistency. A small-town lad hails from the town of Ballabhgarh in Haryana, about 37 km from Delhi.

Sharma had no role model in his family or among friends, it was mere the street cricket and tennis ball tournaments that he which developed his skills initially before being admitted to the Faridabad Cricket Academy run by former Indian wicket-keeper Vijay Yadav.The jovial and simple boy Mohit Sharma leads a simple life and has a simple taste. The hard-earned success has kept him grounded till today.

1. Early Days:

Mohit Sharma, the right-arm medium-fast bowler had no short-cuts in his career, he played for Haryana under all age groups, to be considered for further selection.

2. Bleak time:

The bleak time of Sharma’s career came in his early days in 2008 when a back injury kept him away from the game, bed-ridden for a year.

3. Ranji Season:

Sharma made headlines in the 2012-13 Ranji season finishing as the fifth-highest wicket–taker with 37 wickets in only 8 matches at 23.24.

4. Bowling coach:

The Indian medium-fast bowler worked thoroughly with Ian Pont, the world-renowned bowling coach before his awe-striking performance in domestic cricket.

5. IPL success:

Mohit made his IPL debut for Chennai Super Kings in 2013 and finished as the second best bowler of the season, bagging 20 wickets off the 15 matches that he played. Whereas, he was the purple cap holder of the IPL 2014 with 23 wickets.

6. National debut:

IPL helped Mohit attain his national side debut in the same year for the ODI series against Zimbabwe in July.

7. Man of the Match:

Sharma had a dream debut as he was named the Man of the Match for his economical bowling figure of 2/26 in 10 overs. He was also included in the national squad for the home series against West Indies and the tour of South Africa.

8. T20I debut:

He made his T20I debut against Australia in March 2014 in the ICC World T20. Sharma till now has played 22 ODIs and 6 T20Is grabbing 26 and 6 wickets in each of the format respectively.

9. World Cup call:

Mohit Sharma received a call-up for the World Cup 2015 squad after Ishant Sharma was dropped off the tournament following an injury.

10. World Cup performance: 

Sharma scalped 13 wickets in the World Cup 2015 supporting Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav and finishing as the 3rd highest wicket-taker for India.
