10 year old leggie stuns with a figures of 5 for 9 against seniors: Ever since the retirement of Shane Warne, Australia has been desperately struggling to find a suitable replacement for him. But, Cricket Australia do not lose hope, there something exciting coming in the future.

A 10-year-old kid bowling ‘loopy’ leg spin picked up amazing figures of 5/9 in a seniors match. He also bowled three maidens in the spell. Surprisingly, he was a wicket-keeper and had never bowled leg spin before. It was his first game as a leg spinner.

Playing for Sale against Stratford in fourth grade, Thomas had his older and more experienced opponents searching for a way to deal with him.

“He played his second game in the seniors, and bowling his little loopy leggies he got five wickets,” Thomas’ dad Ian Wrigglesworth told Melbourne’s 3AW.

“I was a [wicket] keeper but now my brother taught me how to bowl leg spin, so I tried that for one game and it worked,” Thomas told ABC Melbourne.

Thomas honed his skills as six-year-old cricketer playing under-11s, before receiving the call up to the seniors. Thomas said he was still surprised when he got his first wicket. “I thought that was a fluke,” he said.

But after clean bowling his second victim, his confidence grew. “I thought I may be a chance to get a few more.”

As the wickets continued to drop his amazed teammates jokingly implored the 10-year-old to “share the wickets around”.

When his father Ian was asked whether it was safe to be pitting children against older boys. He said, “We do try and actively integrate the juniors in with the seniors. We have a program in place whereby the captains are asked to protect and give the boys opportunities where it’s warranted. It is quite a controlled environment. Thomas is a little bit different. He’s the youngest of four kids and his oldest brother is nearly 18 and that’s his playmate, so he’s used to playing with older kids.”

Ian did admit that leg spin is quite hard to bowl and hopes that his son continues this habit. “To be honest, I haven’t seen him bowl in a game much yet but from all reports his control is quite good and he knew when to bowl the right ball that was required.”

He, however, is not concerned whether he will become the next Warne or not. He revealed some bigger concerns. “He’s only 10. He’s having enough trouble getting through grade four, we’re certainly not marking him down for anything else apart from getting through primary school.” Ian said

Every bowler fantasizes of going through the batting order single-handedly. But seem like this young lad has already done that.
