13 lesser known facts about Ambati Rayudu – A domestic giant: The fluent stroke maker, Ambati Rayudu was endorsed as the next big batsman of India. His compatible technique made the selectors confident about the young lad. Rayudu’s 177 against England in 2002 for the Indian junior team said a lot about the talent he beholds.

Rayudu’s blazing innings was followed by a superb Ranji season with a double-hundred and a hundred in the same match. He waited for 11 long years to make his International debut and is yet to represent India in Test cricket. The right-handed batsman also has decent wicket-keeping skills.

Celebrating his 30th birthday today we bring to you, 13 lesser known facts about Ambati Rayudu – A domestic giant:

1. Early Days:

Ambati Rayudu began playing cricket for Hyderabad, making his first-class debut in 2001-02.

2. Disputes with HCA:

In 2005, Ambati Rayudu had disputes with the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) and left the side to play for Andhra Cricket Team for a year.

3. The return:

However, after a disappointing year in the Andhra team he again came back to play for Hyderabad.

4. A great run:

Rayudu’s form with the bat came back, as Ambati Rayudu scored 566 runs in 9 matches at an average of 56.60 which included a double hundred and 3 half- centuries.

5. Under-19 Captain:

Rayudu’s domestic performances grabbed the eyes of the selectors and they appointed him the captain of the Indian U-19 team.

6. Yes!!

In his early stages, he was called the next Sachin Tendulkar.

7. Banned by BCCI:

Unfortunately, the right-handed batsman was banned from Indian cricket by the BCCI for signing a contract with the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) in 2007.

8. Revival:

Later in 2009, Ambati Rayudu was given an offer from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) allowing him to return to Indian domestic cricket after he ended his contract with ICL.

9. Played for Baroda:

In 2011-12, the middle order batsman decided to play for Baroda after his Hyderabad team got demoted to the Plate Division of Ranji Trophy.

10. Domestic achievement: 

Ambati Rayudu played for Rest of India in the Irani Cup 2013 against Mumbai scoring 51 and 156*. He was a top scorer in the 2012-13 Deodhar Trophy final where his match-winning innings of 78* helped the West Zone to chase down the target of 290 set up by the North Zone.

11. International ODI debut:

Ambati Rayudu finally received a call-up for the Indian senior team for Zimbabwe tour in 2013, where he made his One-day debut on 24th July 2013.

12. Yet to feature in Tests:

Ambati Rayudu is yet to make his Test debut, he has played 31 ODIs for which includes 2 centuries and 5 half-centuries and an individual best of 124*.

13. IPL diaries

Ambati Rayudu was stated as a big name to watch out for in the IPL 2011 after he put up a good show in the IPL season of 2010 where he played for Mumbai Indians. In 2011, he had another smashing season scoring 395 in 16 matches which had four half-centuries.
