This is their best bet. For the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to successfully bring back cricket to the country have to host as many matches of the third edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as they can and convince the international players to fly to their country and play. Having already named seven players who had agreed to feature in the PSL, the PCB today announced another 13 named.

New Zealanders, Proteas, an Australian and an Englishman comprise this list as the likes of Luke Ronchi, Mitchell McClenaghan, Colin Munro Albie Morkel, Wayne Parnell, John Hastings and Adil Rashid. With this, the total number of overseas participants goes up to 20.

“Pakistan Super League is all set to become bigger and better with more international stars signing up to take part in the Player Draft for season three,” says a statement from the PSL secretariat.

Expansion year

PCB chairman Najam Sethi termed this an expansion year and they are trying to make the league bigger with the participation of more globally recognized foreign players.

“This is an expansion year and, therefore, our efforts are geared towards making this bigger and better than the first two seasons. We have top tier international talent joining a pool of released players and this sets us up very nicely for the main draft,” said Sethi.

“The draft pool for this year will consist of new signings as well as players who were released at the end of the retention window and went unpicked in the expansion draft,” a PSL official was quoted as saying by Geo.tv.

As per the draft rules, the teams will select one each from the platinum, diamond and gold categories, two in silver, two in emerging and up to four players in the supplementary round to complete their team.

The list of foreign players who’ve agreed to play PSL:

Mitchell McClenaghan (New Zealand), Luke Ronchi (New Zealand), Colin Munro (New Zealand), Jason Holder (West Indies), Darren Bravo (West Indies), Evin Lewis (West Indies), Lendl Simmons (West Indies),  James Vince (England), Tim Bresnan (England), Adil Rashid (England), John Hastings (Australia), Mitchell Johnson (Australia), Chris Lynn (Australia), Wayne Parnell (South Africa), Albie Morkel (South Africa), JP Duminy (South Africa), Imran Tahir (South Africa), Mustafizur Rahman (Bangladesh), Angelo Mathews (Sri Lanka), Rashid Khan (Afghanistan)
