Over the last few days, there’s a trend going on in Twitter by the name of #SareeTwitter where women are sharing pics of theirs, wearing sarees. From the likes of Sonam Kapoor Ahuja to Priyanka Gandhi, a number of other renowned personalities have also taken up the challenge. Meanwhile, a funny video, surrounding the same is doing the rounds on social media platforms.

However, the clip was regarding an incident that took place way back in 1975 during a Test match between India and the West Indies. A woman, wearing a black saree, went running onto the cricket pitch. She dodged all the police personnel and went up to the then 23-year-old cricketer Brijesh Patel. Moreover, she kissed the batsman for a brief while and then went away, smiling.

A Twitter user posted the video with #SareeTwitter and mentioned that it can’t be beaten. The user captioned the video and wrote, “Sorry this #SareeTwitter cannot be beaten.” Replying to the video, a Twitter user wrote, “She definitely wasn’t saree about what she did,”

Here is the video

As far as Brijesh Patel is concerned, he played quite a few games, donning the national colors. He made his international debut in a Test match versus England in Manchester where he could only manage eight runs. Patel went on to ply his trade in 21 Tests in which he managed 972 runs at an average of 29.45. His top score of 115* came against the West Indies in Port of Spain back in March 1976.

That knock turned out to be his only international ton. He also churned out five half-centuries in the format. Moreover, Patel had the privilege of playing ODI cricket as well where he scored 243 runs at an average of 30.37 with one fifty. His last international appearance came back in 1979 against Sri Lanka in Manchester itself. At the domestic level, he has 36 centuries and 59 fifties.

He was one of the first Indian players to be a natural player for the shorter version of the game. After hanging his boots from the game of cricket, he became a Test selector and then went in administration and elected as the secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
