A disappointed Kane Williamson addressed the media in the press conference following the conclusion of the England v New Zealand semi-final. The Kiwis have played some magnificent cricket in the duration of the World T20, especially having a 100% record in the Super 10’s. However, within a span of just 40-overs, Kane Williamson and his New Zealand side earned the unfortunate tag of chokers.
Batting first, the Black Caps got off to a decent start. After the end of the 10th over, it seemed as though the Kiwis would run away with a win. In the final over of the innings, Ben Stokes was all that stood in the way of New Zealand and glory. In the presser, a disappointed Williamson stated that his side were 20 to 25 runs short while the English bowled really well towards the death of the innings.
“We got off to a good start but we were 20-25 short,” Williamson told reporters. “England bowled really well in that death period which made life very difficult.
Williamson added that the ball wasn’t coming onto the bat as well as they hoped which perhaps resulted in a few poor shots towards the end of the innings.
“Unfortunately, we were not able to connect as well as we’d have liked. It certainly was not through a lack of trying.”
“We were 130 for three (in the 16th over) which certainly is a very good platform in any match if you’re playing T20 cricket and we were not able to capitalise on it,” added Williamson.
