Rahul Chahar was the latest addition to the T20I squad after Varun Chakravarthy had to be pulled off as he failed the fitness test two successive times. But, India went ahead with Chahal as the only leg-spinner in the side. He was taken apart by the England batsmen, who seemed to pick his variations quite well.

Chahal did get the wicket of Jos Buttler but failed to put the screws on the English batters. He ended with 1 for 44 in his four overs and was the most expensive Indian bowler. The Haryana spinner hasn’t had the best of domestic seasons as well. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021, he ended with only five wickets from six matches, with an average of 36.80.

Chahar, on the other hand, has been in top form with the ball in the recent domestic season. He picked up 11 wickets from five matches while playing for his state team, Rajasthan. His economy was 6.55, less than that of Chahal, who bowled in the same tournament with an economy of 7.66. Chahar had a much better average as well, 11.90. Replacing Chahal with the man in form, R Chahar might help India keep England quiet in the middle overs and also pick some wickets.
