The grandest T20 tournament of the world, IPL is unlikely to be played in front of jam-packed stadiums this year as several state governments have requested to delay the tourney or play the matches behind close doors. While the IPL Governing Council has scheduled a meeting for this Saturday, it is possible that the board decides to host this year’s IPL outside India.

The reason behind it is that Coronavirus is compelling the state officials to take action against the tournament and there are still many countries in the world that are yet to record a single positive case for COVID-19. As the Indian cricket fans are present everywhere, BCCI can take the risk of moving IPL 2020 outside the country.

Here are the 3 nations which could host IPL 2020 if it is shifted outside India

1. Sri Lanka

Starting with the likeliest alternative venue for IPL 2020, Sri Lanka could host this tournament because the Lankan fans are crazy for the sport so, filling up stadiums will not be a big issue. Besides, the likes of Lasith Malinga and Mahela Jayawardene are associated with IPL 2020. This can help the organizers market the tournament with some local flavor.

Sri Lanka Cricket Board has a good relation with the BCCI. The fact that the two Asian nations regularly play cricket against each other solidifies the aforementioned claim.

The island nation has only recorded one positive case of Coronavirus so far. It is set to host an ICC World Test Championship series between England and Sri Lanka soon and as the time zone will not change much, BCCI could seriously consider Sri Lanka as the venue for IPL 2020.
