There is no doubt that MS Dhoni’s days in professional cricket are numbered. The former Indian skipper was last seen on a cricket field in India’s heartbreaking semi-final loss in the 2019 World Cup. He has been on a sabbatical since then. Everybody seems to be waiting for the big announcement.

However, as we know, no one can predict what Dhoni is thinking or what decisions he’s going to take. But one thing is almost certain that he will turn out to play for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the next IPL season (2020). The player contracts are for three seasons and he wouldn’t leave that in the middle.

Hence, 2020 may well be the last IPL season for Dhoni. But one can never predict. CSK need to think about their future, the post-Dhoni era. It is important for them to build a strong leadership group and thus, here we look at three players who CSK can pick from the auctions to lead them in the future.

Three players CSK should pick in the auction to lead the side in future:

If there is one man who has brought about a massive change in the culture of England cricket, it has to be Eoin Morgan. The England white-ball captain has led the revolution in limited-overs cricket for his side.

Morgan has led the side really well and the results are there for everyone to see. The Irish-born cricketer is cool and calm under pressure and may well be a perfect replacement for MS Dhoni, be it as captain or batsman. Morgan can bat in the middle order and can don the finisher’s role as well.

Moreover, he is tactically very good and thinks on his feet. In fact, he is rated as one of the best white-ball skippers going around in the world today. Morgan is no stranger to the IPL either. He has played 52 IPL matches but the last time he featured in the Indian T20 league was back in 2017.
