After a series of disappointing results, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have recorded their second consecutive win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their group stage match played at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. RCB skipper Faf du Plessis played an excellent knock for his team and ensured that the Red Army posted an above-par total on the board.

RCB, after winning the toss, decided to have a bat first. However, they got off to a shaky start after their prominent batter Virat Kohli bagged his third golden duck in IPL 2022. The innings were then stabilized by Du Plessis (73* off 50 balls) and Rajat Patidar (48 off 38 balls). After Patidar departed, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell replaced him and played some lusty blows.

However, he was scalped at his score of 33, before wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik gave the finishing touches. The right-handed batter scored 30 runs in just eight balls and had a strike rate of 375. For SRH, Jagadeesha Suchith (two wickets) and Kartik Tyagi (one wicket) were the successful bowlers.

SRH had the worst possible start in their chase

Chasing 193 runs to win, the Orange Army had the worst possible start as they lost both their openers Abhishek Sharma and skipper Kane Williamson within the first over of the second innings. Indian batter Rahul Tripathi (58 off 37 balls) and South African batter Aiden Markram (21 off 27 balls) tried to bring SRH back into the contest.

However, the South African batter was not at his personal best as he was scalped by Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga. West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran (19 off 14 balls), tried to play some big shots and was successful too, but he was also scalped by Hasaranga.

After the fall of Pooran, SRH continued to lose wickets at regular intervals as Suchith, Shashank Singh, Kartik Tyagi, and Umran Malik failed to get to the double-digit mark. As a result, SRH lost the match by 67 runs, allowing the Red Army to grab two crucial points. For RCB, Hasaranga was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped five wickets in his four-over quota and gave away only 18 runs.

Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood (two wickets), Maxwell (one wicket), and Harshal Patel (one wicket) were the successful bowlers. Meanwhile, RCB after winning today’s encounter, continue to be at fourth position in the points table and will want to replicate their performance in the upcoming match as well. To note, SRH are currently placed sixth in the table after losing six of their 11 matches.
