3. Steve Waugh and Jason Gillespie – The Bloody clash:

The bloody crash pinned down Australia finally. Sri Lanka was cursing on the second day of the Test match at Galle following the lead of 188 runs that Aussies managed to put up on the score board. Mahela Jayawardene and Arvinda de Silva were the on-crease accelerators for Sri Lanka. A Colin Miller delivery was pulled by Jayawardene towards leg, Gillespie was sprinting towards the ball desperate to get the breakthrough. But, he was not the only one Steve Waugh was racing towards the ball all the way from square leg with the same intentions, only that fate had other plans.

Both failed to reach the ball and collided, Gillespie tumbled over his captain and hit the ground sideways, he got up checking his right leg. Waugh on the other hand stayed on the ground with blood running out of his nose and groaning pain while the physio ran to his rescue. The former captain was taken straight to the hospital and was diagnosed with a severely slashed and disfigured nose and Gillespie was carried off from the ground, the clash resulted in a tibial fracture for Waugh.
